Cost & scope
What a local SEO budget should include
Answer in brief
Set a budget around the work required, not a universal monthly price. Separate the initial diagnosis and repairs from recurring maintenance, content and measurement.
Price the starting condition
A business with a clear website and accurate profile may need focused improvements. A business with duplicate information, inaccessible accounts or a site that cannot be edited has a different starting cost.
Ask the agency which problems it has verified and which remain assumptions. A priced scope should tell you what is being changed, not merely promise to “optimize local SEO.”
Separate setup from ongoing work
Initial work may include service-page changes, contact tracking, technical fixes and profile corrections. Ongoing work may include content maintenance, reporting and changes based on customer questions. Not every task belongs in a permanent retainer.
Ask what happens in a month when the priority is a website repair rather than a new article. The fee should buy useful work, with the scope and tradeoffs made clear.
Account for costs outside the quote
Hosting, paid software, photographs, call-tracking numbers and advertising can sit outside the management fee. Ask which costs are optional and who owns each subscription. Advertising spend is not an SEO fee.
Your own team also supplies time: approving business details, providing genuine project evidence and answering inquiries. An affordable agency fee does not solve a contact process nobody can manage.
Use business outcomes carefully
Record the total spend and the work delivered. Track qualified inquiries, accepted work and payments separately. A rise in visits can support further investigation; it does not by itself show that the engagement paid for itself.
Before expanding the scope, review what reached prospective customers and which part of the path remains weak. Low exposure and poor inquiry handling need different responses.
