Measurement
How to tell what local SEO changed
Answer in brief
Use several separate measures: search visibility, website visits, contact actions, actual inquiries and booked work. Keep the dates and sources visible so the numbers answer the same question.
Keep a dated starting point
Record the important service pages, profile details and contact paths before changes. Note the period used for search and website reports. A dated record lets you distinguish a new result from something that was already happening.
Rankings vary by place and search context. A single screenshot can show one observed result, but it cannot describe every prospective customer’s search.
Check that inquiries can reach you
A phone-link click is not proof of a connected call. A form success message is not proof that someone at the business read the request. Verify those parts separately and make failures visible.
When reviewing calls or forms, record whether the customer wants a service you provide in a place you serve. Wrong-service inquiries should not be treated as equal to suitable opportunities.
Compare periods with context
Mark site releases, changes to opening hours, promotions and seasonal differences. Paid ads and referrals can also affect inquiries during an SEO engagement. Do not assign every change to the last page edit.
Use Search Console for search exposure and clicks, website analytics for visits, and your inquiry records for customer fit. Each system describes a different part of the path.
Choose the next change from the weak link
If relevant searches do not expose the page, inspect discovery, content and eligibility. If visitors arrive but cannot find a next step, inspect the page. If suitable inquiries arrive but do not receive a reply, improve the business handoff.
That distinction keeps the next task connected to an observed problem. It also prevents a report full of green arrows from standing in for actual customer progress.
